Environmental Protection

General information

Elektrociepłownia Mielec Spółka z o.o. pays much attention to environmental protection. The latest investments implemented by EC Mielec have contributed to the increase in electricity and heat co-generation factor. It resulted in reduction of dust and gas emissions to the environment. The achieved ecological effect is confirmed by Wojewódzki Inspektorat Ochrony Środowiska w Rzeszowie. In July 2010, EC Mielec launched a new project "Increase in the efficiency of energy generation in EC Mielec by gas cogeneration". The project applies new solutions to protect the environment and will significantly reduce the factors of emission of pollutants per a production unit.

EC Mielec meets all the environmental standards and regulations. On 12 April 2006, EC Mielec obtained the "Integrated permit for operation of the installation exceeding 50 MW t" pursuant to the decision no. OŚ-III-7644-19/05-01/06 issued by the poviat starosty. The permit is valid until 31 August 2015. It confirms that EC Mielec meets the requirements of the best available technology (BAT) determined in the Directive 96/61/EC on Integrated Pollution and Prevention Control.

Elektrociepłownia Mielec Spółka z o.o. is also equipped with the permit under the Water Law Act for the disposal of industrial sewage to the sewage system of EURO-EKO. The permit is issued on the basis of the decision no. OŚ-II-6223-28/10 dated 3 August 2010 of the poviat starosty.

EC Mielec meets the current and future emission standards determined in the acquired permits and minimizes the environmental impact by:

• burning coal of high calorific value, low content of ash and sulphur
• regular control of emissions of substances to air and concentration of substances in the disposed of sewage, of natural radioactivity of the furnace waste and emission of noise tot eh environment
• proper management of waste
• rational management of water and re-cycling of sewage
• reduction of noise and conservation of energy by frequency converters
• application of technological solutions beneficial for the environment and reliable operation of the equipment

Elektrociepłownia Mielec Spółka z o.o. fulfills also the requirements imposed by the Act on trade in allowances for emissions of greenhouse gases and other substances, including annual verifications of the reports on CO2 emissions required by the National Administrator of the Emission Trading Scheme. In February 2008, Elektrociepłownia Mielec obtained the "Environment Friendly Company" certificate in the competition organized by Europejskie Forum Odpowiedzialności Ekologicznej under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment.
